The Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District Facilitated Discussion will be held on:
Saturday, June 8, 2019,
from 10 am to 5 pm,
in the Rainbow Room at the SF LGBT Center,
1800 Market Street, in San Francisco.
Please note this special location.
Please use public transportation to access the SF LGBT Center.
Street parking is limited. The SF LGBT Center is accessible by MUNI J,K,L,M,N or F, as well as bus lines 6,7,61,71. Please be considerate of our neighbors and do not block driveways or park in blue, yellow or white zones.
We know that asking you to give up a whole Saturday for this is asking a lot. But this will be a very important meeting, and your best opportunity to express your opinions about how our organization should function.
We encourage you to review the latest draft of our proposed Bylaws here, and the list of some key questions we will be discussing at the meeting here. (You can add additional questions and comments to these documents if you like.)
The space is fully ADA compliant. We will break for one hour for lunch, probably around 1:00 pm. If you can’t attend for the whole day, please try to drop in for a while so we can hear your views. You may also attend via remote access: watch for more information on this shortly. Thanks!
The next Community Meeting to discuss the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District is set for Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 7:00 pm. The tentative location is Room 204 of the SF LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market Street (at Octavia) , in San Francisco.
The proposed agenda will be posted at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting.
Mayor London Breed is setting up “City Hall in your neighborhood!” — where folks can meet with liaisons from the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services to ask questions, learn about City resources, and more. Drop by David Rio Chai Bar at 1019 Market Street — all are welcome and no appointment is necessary. Upcoming scheduled hours include May 21, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, and May 28, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Say hello to our liaison, Emma Heiken, and perhaps mention that the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District told you about it! For more info, visit sfmayor.org/mons or check out this flyer.
The next Land Use Committee Meeting is set for Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 7 to 9 pm, at the SF Eagle, 398 12th Street. Contact the committee chair for more info!
On June 8, 9, 15 & 16 (Saturdays at noon & 3 PM, Sundays at 1 PM), Eye Zen Presents “OUT of Site: SOMA”, a performance-driven, queer history walking tour! From Native American Two-Spirit culture to the Folsom Street Fair, lesbian auto mechanics to labor activists, dock workers to drag queens, you’ll rediscover the hidden history of San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. Read more about it here, then buy tickets ($10 – $45, NOTAFLOF) here.
We have applied for a grant of approximately $230,000 from the Mayor’s Office of Housing & Community Development (MOHCD), to help launch our Cultural District. We expect to hear if we have received the grant by no later than May 6. You can view the Request for Proposals document here. For more information, please contact email@example.com.
The Pride Parade and Festival is Sunday, June 26, 2019. This year’s theme is “Generations of Resistance”.
Marching with the Leather Pride Contingent would be a great way to show ourselves. Perhaps we can make a banner…? Maybe hand out cards with our name & URL? Let me know if you would like to help with that. Or attend the final planning meeting on Saturday, June 8, at 2 pm, at the SF Eagle Patio.
And please take the Contingent Monitor Training. here.
Our Leather Marshals for the Parade are: Ms. Cat, Graylin K. Thornton, and Unicorn boy. They’ll be riding in the pony carts in the parade, accepting cheers and applause!
Leather Alley is a very special, very kinky part of the SF Pride Parade and Celebration. Read all about it here.
Volunteers are very much needed. Attend the planning meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 7 pm, at SF Catalyst (details here), sign up here, or write to firstname.lastname@example.org for more info or to discuss.
And be sure to visit Leather Alley on Sunday, June 30, 2019. (You must be 18+ to visit Leather Alley. A donation is requested. All proceeds benefit the SF Bay Area Leather Alliance.)
