Committees

The District has a number of standing Committees hard at work, and your participation is welcome.

If you are currently receiving emails regarding the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District, you can check on or change your membership on the various Committees, (including the Land Use, Governance and Outreach Committees, as well as the new Nightlife/Entertainment, Business, and Organizations Committees) by using the update your preferences link at the very bottom of any email you receive from us.

If you are NOT receiving our emails, you should fix that by signing up here, and indicating which Committees you are interested in.

You can also express interest in serving on the Nominating Committee, but participation on that Committee will be probably be limited under the District Bylaws, which are still being finalized.

You can also sign up for our Committees at any of our open Community Meetings, listed above.

The next Land Use Committee meeting is scheduled for December 13, starting at 7:00 pm, at SF Catalyst, 1060 Folsom Street.

Recent meetings of the the Governance Committee were held on Wednesday, August 22 and 29, September 12, and October 10, 2018, at SF Catalyst, 1060 Folsom Street, in San Francisco.  Because these meetings focused on editing of various draft Bylaws documents, formal minutes were not prepared.

NOTE REGARDING SMOKE:

At this time, it seems likely that the Air Quality in San Francisco will be RED (Unhealthy) on Sunday. Obviously we do NOT wish you to endanger your health or safety to attend this event.

FYI, the SF Catalyst space is securely enclosed and has not been uncomfortable in recent days. There are fans to circulate the air, but no exhaust fans, filtering, or air purification systems.

As of now, we DO plan to be there to welcome, feed, and talk with you. If you can’t attend, we understand. If conditions are unhealthy, or if no one attends, we may end the event early. We also might schedule a replacement event in the weeks to come.

Steering Committee Proposal

Good day everyone.

Please see below the Steering Committee proposal. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for the committee as an at large member, you can do so via email to lcdnominations@leatheralliance.org.

Nominations will be accepted at the beginning of the next Community meeting as well. Those nominated will be contacted directly to find out if they’d like to accept – please include contact information. If you have questions – please post below or to the nominations email and someone will respond. Thanks!

Steering Committee Proposal: The L+CD Steering committee shall function as the interim executive body of the L+CD. The Steering committee will enact the bylaws upon approval of our membership, then prepare and facilitate the elections of board members according to enacted bylaws.

The committee will be comprised of 7 members. Chairs of standing committees will represent their committee. If any committee has multiple chairs, these chairs shall choose one member to represent the committee.

The Steering committee will be comprised of the following members:

Legislative Chair
Outreach Chair
Governance Chair
Land Use Chair
Financial Chair
2 at-large members nominated from within the membership.

The steering committee’s activities will stop, and the committee will be disbanded, upon election of board members as described in the bylaws. Duties of the interim Steering Committee include: Will provide guidance on different issues such as budgets, new endeavors, agencies, policies, and outreach strategies.

The committee shall also function as the interim executive body of the L+CD. The committee will enact the bylaws upon approval of our membership, then prepare and facilitate the elections of board members according to enacted bylaws.

The committee will facilitate the creation of Stakeholder and Nominating Committees. The committee will be required to meet at minimum once a month, no less than one week before the General Meeting.

Qualifications for nomination of the 2 members at large:

A current voting member who has been at a total of at least 5 general meetings.

You will be asked to state why you would want to be on the committee/why you accept a nomination for being on the committee.

Voting will be done on a paper ballot by writing two names of the people you believe are best for the 2 members at large seats.

Bob G. + Leather Alliance rep (not currently a voting member) will count votes so as to be impartial to the outcome.
