Alliance Helps Fund Ringold Alley Project

The Leather Alliance and a host of volunteers are getting together to host a very special event to help fund the Ringold Alley Leather History Project.

If you are unfamiliar with the project, you definitely need to drop by Ringold Alley some time to check it out.  The project, now virtually complete, showcases leather pride colors on bulb outs, names from our history on bronze bootprints, and granite “standing stones” honoring some of the important leather organizations and institutions of our community’s early years.  A large explanatory marker features iconic images:  Chuck Arnett’s famous mural and Fe-Be’s “Leather David”.

Visit the Exiles Web site or “Leather Memoir” for more information on the Project, and watch for an announcement of the official dedication and leather-ribbon-cutting ceremony.  Meanwhile…

To aid in the fundraising, a very special “Boots, Beer and Bikes” event will be held on Saturday July 29, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m, at the San Francisco Eagle. This is the day before “Up Your Alley”, so we expect quite a crowd, whose festive and anticipatory mood will be whipped into a frenzy by the amazing Alotta Boutté!

You can join the beer bust by contributing $15 for unlimited beer or soda (details about the beer bust hours and the possibility of other refreshments should be coming soon).

Wear your boots and tip your bootblack, who might be one of these noted experts:

  • Pawlish (International Mr Bootblack 2017)
  • Geoff Millard (Mr San Francisco Leather 2017, 1st Runner Up IML 2017)
  • Bootblack Beta (1st Runner Up IMBB 2016)
  • Bootblack Everett (BC, Canada)

Bring your wheels for a $10 Bike Wash.  I can only imagine what the volunteers tending to your bike will be wearing!  (If you’d like to volunteer for this or any other Leather Alliance project or event, email

Bring your smokes and enjoy the SF Eagle Cigar Lounge, hosted by the Puff Cigar Club!

For those of you visiting from out of town:  Ringold Alley can be found running from 8th and 9th Streets, between Harrison and Folsom Streets.  The SF Eagle is at 398 12th Street, at the corner of Harrison.  Both are located in the historic and justly infamous “South of Market” district of San Francisco.

See you there!
